Lexington, Kentucky – Lexington police chief Rico Law said on Tuesday that he has resigned following a medical emergency.
Law, a veteran of the U.S. military, was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis in January, a condition that requires an overnight stay at a local hospital.
He has not been seen by a doctor since March 26, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported.
Law’s department was placed under emergency lockdown last week after receiving a call about a suspicious vehicle at a law office, the Herald-Journal reported.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Law, and two sons.
Law said on Twitter on Monday that he had decided to step down.
