NEW YORK — The New York Police Department has more officers than Chicago, and that includes the entire city of New York.
In a post on Twitter, New York City Police Commissioner James O’Neill wrote that he would be happy to discuss the matter with Mayor Bill de Blasio.
“I have never seen such a big disparity in the NYPD and Chicago,” O’Neil said.
Chicago, which has 1.8 million more residents than New York, has more than 100,000 more officers, according to data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
O’Neill has said the department needs to have a better sense of where the need is.
“It is very important to me that we do not see any police officers who have no idea where they are at, but where they could be,” O’,Neill said.
The Chicago Police Department, which O’Donnell said has about 20,000 officers, has about 9,000, according.
The FBI says that the NYPD has about 3,600 officers.
The NYPD’s staffing has been cut by more than 40 percent since 2014, according the FBI.
