Supreme Court ruling: Texas gun laws must remain unchanged

The Supreme Court ruled that Texas must uphold its ban on assault weapons.

The court said the state’s constitution protects people’s right to bear arms.

The ban was part of the state legislature’s effort to restrict gun ownership in the wake of the mass shooting in December at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

The justices said the constitution did not protect people from being killed by armed criminals.

The case involved a lawsuit brought by two women who said they had lost their jobs after being denied access to firearms because of their sexual orientation.
